The Road Ahead

In a world of fear and chaos, the grass often looks greener somewhere else. When I mention my move to the US, some people wish they could come with me to escape Canada’s problems. Others wonder what’s wrong with me, convinced it’s even worse down south. But the truth is that God is in control wherever we go. We may blow a few tyres along the journey, but we can trust that the destination is worth it.

At its core, life in Biblical times wasn’t much different from ours. In 600 B.C., Daniel lived amid strife and uncertainty. He was exiled to a foreign country and pressured to conform to its evil ways. But he refused. Daniel knew that while life may appear chaotic and meaningless, God is in control and leading history toward His purposes (Daniel 4:34-35).

It’s often difficult to imagine a hopeful future because we can’t see where our present struggles are leading. But Revelation gives us a glimpse of the destination: God’s Kingdom on Earth. A world without sin, conflict, or evil. No more oppressive systems or false beliefs. All the faithful worshipping together (Revelation 19:6-10). It is so glorious that the angels eagerly interrupt John’s writing to make sure he records it correctly.

Our next step on this long journey is simple: commit yourself to the church. The church is God’s plan for moving the world toward Revelation’s destination. It’s where we learn to love God, grow into the people He created us to be, and help others do the same (Matthew 22:35-40; 28:18-20). It sounds too simple to work. But because God is in control, we can be confident that His plan cannot fail.
