The Power of Doing What Jesus Says

As I enter my last month at Community of Hope, I’ve been reflecting on the journey of the last ten years. The idea of a road is particularly meaningful to me right now. My family first came to Surrey in a motor home, with little money or stability. It was scary at times, but also liberating to simply go where the Lord led us. We knew we’d be fine because He had our backs.

Jesus referred to Himself as the Way, the Truth, and the Life (John 14:6). It’s a fitting description of Christianity: a way of life, a path you take, a road you follow. You don’t always know what’s around the next bend, but you know you’re going somewhere. And you know Jesus is right there, walking with you every step of the way (Isaiah 30:21).

But people often miss a crucial part of life on the road: taking the next step.

It’s wonderful to spend time in the Word, pray, and learn how God made the universe to work (John 8:32). Yet unless you regularly do what God calls you to do (John 8:31), your faith can begin to feel boring or burdensome. Faith without action is like driving a car. You can memorise the manual, but you won’t get anywhere until you get behind the wheel.

If you want to move your life and your faith forward, dedicate yourself to taking the next step Jesus is calling you to. That might mean going deeper into the Word, prioritising God more, learning to love and forgive, praying more, or opening yourself to let God’s light shine through you. Everyone’s next step looks different. It might even be a little scary. But the most liberating thing about following Jesus is that you don’t do it alone. He walks beside you and will take care of you (John 14:19-24).

So take your next faithful step today, and watch Jesus show up more deeply in your life.
