Mother’s Day: The Gift That Can’t Be Bought

This message was given by Dale Albertson, a missionary to Spain whom we support.

Moms embody the church. They’re beacons of kindness and generosity that don’t back down when things get tough. They’ll stare down toddlers during tantrums, kiss scrapes and bruises, pray incessantly, and feed their kids’ friends during playdates.

Moms are under a lot of pressure to provide stability to their children. It’s good to ensure our kids turn out well, with the education, experiences, and behaviours they need to succeed. However, the greatest gift a mother can give is one that money can’t buy: a relationship with Jesus.

When Peter healed a lame man, the Temple authorities were frustrated that they couldn’t dispute the power of Jesus’s name (Acts 3-4). They hated Jesus’s disciples because they presented the hard truth—that no rituals, bloodlines, education, money, or belief systems besides faith in Jesus can save us. A relationship is a gift that lasts for eternity, gives peace in conflict, courage in fearful times, and boldness to speak the hard but necessary truths. That’s incredible! There is no better gift, and mothers must prove its worth by living it out as good examples to their children. They must pray, seek the LORD, and talk about faith regularly to show the power of His Name.

This doesn’t just apply to literal mothers. The Church is a mother to the world, so all men and women in Christ must talk about Jesus’s salvation. Like a good mother, give the world prayer, love, scripture, and truth. And do so boldly, knowing the Enemy is powerless against the Holy Spirit.
