God Is Light

People take sunlight for granted. We enjoy its warmth on our skin, but rarely stop to think about it. Yet light deserves our attention. Beyond the mind-bending science behind it, light is the most spiritual of all physical substances. It marked the beginning of the universe, cleanses disease, improves our mood, and even extends our lifespans.

The spiritual significance of light shapes John’s letters. His experience in Revelation awakened him to how reality truly works: good and evil have black-and-white boundaries, this world is temporary, and devotion to God is what ultimately matters (1 John 2:15-17). John’s vivid language is a wake-up call. Like flipping on a bright light in a dark room, his words force us to see clearly.

John calls believers to walk in Light, Love, and Truth. For him, these ideas are synonymous with God Himself. God is light, and darkness cannot exist in His presence (1 John 1:5-6). We remain in darkness as long as we cling to sin, and will be destroyed along with it when God reunites Heaven and Earth. The Light constantly seeks us out, but not to destroy us. Through Jesus, it comes to heal, restore, and transform us if we are willing to step into it.

Admitting our sin and leaving the shadows behind isn’t easy (1 John 1:8-10). Yet walking in the Light brings healing, clarity, and growth. And the longer we live there, the more we become who God is preparing us to be, and the more He will use us to shine His light to others who are still finding their way.
